About Paradise Sports & The Flying Hawaiian Classic

Who is Paradise Sports?

The Flying Hawaiian Classics & Paradise Sports are operated and managed by former National Coach of the Year, Terry Waldrop.  The 2017 menu will offer basketball for the 7th year and will introduce Golf for the first time.  These events will be during the week of June 20-27, 2017.

Coach Waldrop is a 20 year veteran College Basketball Coach and Athletic Director. He has coached at levels including Junior College, NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA. His team at Texas Wesleyan University won the NAIA Division I National Championship and was selected National Collegiate Coach of the Year.

Coach Waldrop is known as a national collegiate recruiting expert and speaks on recruiting at various sites in the country each year.   He also  hosts a daily  ESPN radio show and is a well known entreprenuer. He has a passion for the Flying Hawaiian Classic and entering it’s 7th year the Classic has grown stronger and is expanding  each year.

Coach Waldrop makes sure that this is truly the experience of a lifetime for both student athletes and family members and the testimonials each summer continue to support that statement.

The Flying Hawaiian Classics are a 7 day 6 night incredible sport experience trip to Hawaii for student athletes and many times their family members. They occur (depending on sport/activity)  during June and July  each summer.  The trip combines high quality level sport instruction & competition (in many cases international competition ) with educational and cultural opportunities that are once in a lifetime experiences.

During each week, our staff gets to interact with student athletes whom in most cases they would never meet otherwise, and it also allows athletes and their families unprecedented access to  our  coaches in order to gain insight, ask questions and networking opportunities.

The "sport experience" concept is founded on 3 components and is designed with something for everyone in the family in mind:

Athletics:

We are providing the participating student athlete an unparalleled opportunity to enhance their skill set, train with our coaches, and participate against national and international competition. Basketball will have 2 days of divisional play culminating with a championship tournament.  Golf will play 2 rounds during the week with a tournament on the 3rd day.  There will also be optional days that golf could be played as well.   This is truly an event for everyone.

Educational:

All student athletes and family members (supporting travelers) tour  solemn and timeless Pearl Harbor and USS Arizona Memorial.  You will see the ‘black tears’ still leaking from the  USS Arizona, merely a few feet below the surface.  Many will drop their lei flowers in the water in silent tribute to the fallen soldiers of December 7, 1941.  This is one of the most important, if not the most important part of the trip for many people.

Cultural:

All student athletes and supporting travelers will be guests at an authentic Hawaiian Luau, traveling through a tropical rainforest over the Koolau Mountains to the tropical windward side of O'ahu and stopping at the Nuuanu Pali Lookout. Additionally, we will take a Honolulu city tous which includes visits the Iolani Palace, the Hawaii State Capital, and the King Kamehameha Statue and much more. You may also see on your tour places where many famous movie and television shows were filmed including (50 First Dates, Lost, Hawaii 5-0 and many others).

Because we feel that it is very important to make the Flying Hawaiian Classic a very family friendly event for everyone, Paradise Sports includes all supporting travelers of the student athlete in every tour, show and event that we offer. We are bringing families together for a great Hawaiian experiene while at the same time giving the student athlete an un-equaled opportunity to participate in sporting events and to learn from and play for our highly skilled and outstanding staff of coaches.

We have purposely kept our prices at a very modest level to give as many student athletes and families as possible the chance to participate. This is the absolute best value for your money for this type of program, service, accommodations, and highly trained staff to train the students.

Our network of scouts and coaches across the country recommend student athletes to us in various sports. These scouts include both high school and collegiate coaches in addition to officials, teachers, principals among others. Student athletes can also request an application and our staff will evaluate them and if they meet the criteria they will be issued an invitation.   We intentionally keep squad and competition sizes limited to ensure maximum exposure and competition time for our athletes.
